Remember You Are Dealing With A Human

Jesus Diaz, Co.Design, wrote a post that included a line from a 1985 pre-release version of Apple II Human Interface Guidelines that says, “You must remember that you are dealing with a human being and tailor your [new technology] to deal gently with the kind of fears and anxieties that the very existence of your [invention] may provoke.”

Jesus explains that “this paragraph–tweeted by Unity Labs’ director of extended reality authoring Timoni West–was about making new computer users feel comfortable with a program, helping them overcome their potential resistance to embrace it.”

Hopefully more developers and designers of new technology will embrace the thought embedded in this reminder.
